Nebraska Diplomats recognize achievements of Fiserv, GeneSeek
Fiserv and GeneSeek were recipients of the Nebraska Diplomats Presidents Awards at the annual Business and Industry Day held May 11 in Lincoln.
Both GeneSeek and Fiserv (formerly Information Technology Inc.) are Lincoln-based companies started by Lincoln entrepreneurs. The award was presented by Diplomats President Mary Gerdes.
“We are thrilled the Diplomats chose to honor two great Lincoln companies,” said Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President Wendy Birdsall. “In the current economic downturn, both Fiserv and GeneSeek continue to grow in Lincoln and create terrific employment opportunities for area residents. Also, both companies prove that the entrepreneurship spirit is alive and well in the Capital City and that technology companies can grow and thrive in our community. We appreciate both companies’ contributions to our great city.”
Abe Oommen and Daniel Pomp, co-founders of the GeneSeek, were both on-hand for the presentation. GeneSeek started in 1998 in Lincoln with the founders and one student intern. Today, the company has 34 full-time employees, seven of who have their Ph.D.s.
The company, which started and is still located at the University of Nebraska Technology Park, specializes in genomics and clinical diagnostics and has offices and clients around the world.
The Lincoln operation of Fiserv was founded in 1976 by Don Dillon and Dale Jensen as Information Technology Inc. (ITI). The company is a leading supplier of software and services for the nation’s financial industry and offers integrated and customized technology solutions to help bankers be successful.
The Lincoln operation is part of the bank solutions group which is made up of 2,000 professionals. Some 750 of those are located at the Lincoln campus located at 14th and Old Cheney. A fourth building is under construction at the campus which will accommodate another 300 associates and is scheduled to open in June.
Tom Cyper, President of Fiserv’s Bank Solutions group, was on-hand to accept the award.
